This is Krookodile, a ground and dark type pokemon from the fifth generation of Pokemon. It is the final form of Sandile and Krokorok. You can see it's shaped snout and long claws in the official artwork.
It is based on the Gharial, a crocodile species found the Indian subcontinent.
The fifth generation is set in North America, and is the first game to be set somewhere other than Japan. Gharials are not native to North America, but can be found in zoos.
I am not sure why Krookodile is red. Its previous forms did have red underbellies, but from a animal standpoint, the colours do not match with the grey and brown tones of the gharial. This colour choice may be linked to its typing, as this red is quite dark.
I personally like the way they captured the iconic snout of the gharial in krookodile's design. Gharials have a very long and thin snout until the end where it becomes a nice circular shape. In the wild, this is used for hunting. The bands around the red pokemon are also linked to the way the gharial has black/dark bands on its back. I appreciate the details in Krookodile's design.
That's all for todays pokemon post. What do you think about krookodile?
